Spring Term 2023

6th January 2023

Dear Parents and Carers

Happy New Year and a very warm welcome back to Curie Class. I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas break and are just as keen as I am to start the new term.

This term our Topic is ‘Castles’ where the children will explore a variety of writing opportunities, through reading, role play and real experiences. This topic is always so much fun, and I cannot wait to share it with Curie Class.

Routines in the classroom will mostly stay the same this term, but please do read on to refresh yourselves.

Reading

The children will continue to receive two books at a time alongside a third book to complement their phonics scheme. The main reading books are changed when your child has read each book four times, and the phonics book is changed weekly. As always we encourage you to read as much as possible with your child, it really is the best way to improve learning across all subjects. Please do not forget to initial or record reading you have done at home, this is to be done in the home school diaries.

PE

PE will continue to take place on Monday and Wednesday, so please continue to send your child to school in PE kit on these days. Please note that swimming will be back on Friday 13th January.

Spellings

Spellings will continue as normal – handed out on the Friday and tested the following Friday.

Homework

Children will continue to receive their homework on a Friday, please ensure that homework is completed and handed in no later than Wednesday to allow for marking.

Please continue to contact me as the main teacher for all Year 1 and 2 children via my email r.parker@buckminster.leics.sch.uk or contact the office to make an appointment.

Warm regards

Mrs O’Callaghan
